ELETTROCUTION
Unfortuntely, the electric pylons can causes electrocution of birds, particularly in species with large wing span.
The most dangerous lines are those of medium or small tensions, in which the distance between the wires are smaller than the wing span. This problem in Italy is not serious like in other countries, however, in some instances even the loss of a single bird of a rare species can represent a dramatic loss for the ecosystem. ENEL is sensitive to this problem and is trying to reduce and minimize the risk electrocution for birds in accordance with the Bonn convention. (download PDF). Some local situations have been already ameliorated and others are in the process of being improved.
For example, ENEL and LIPU have implemented together the lines in the vicinity of a nest of white stork.
